College Essay Writing Program – Group Sessions Overview

At Test Prep Pundits, Our College Essay Writing Program is carefully designed to guide students every step of crafting a standout Common App essay. Led by experienced tutors, our small group sessions offer structured instruction, personalized support, and actionable feedback at each step. Here’s what each session includes:

Structure of the program

Our program covers six group sessions and four 45-minute-long one on one sessions with each student. Both sessions will occur concurrently, but group sessions will have a set date and time to be determined.

Group Session #1: Getting Started on Your Common App Essay

In this kickoff session, students will develop a clear understanding of what makes a compelling Common App personal statement. We’ll explore what admissions officers are really looking for, review successful sample essays, and walk through the Common App essay prompts in detail. Students will begin brainstorming meaningful experiences and themes to lay the foundation for a strong, authentic essay.

Group Sessions #2 & #3: Structure, Outlining, and Prioritization

These two sessions focus on transforming raw ideas into a clear structure. Students will learn how to organize their thoughts into a compelling narrative that flows well and highlights their personal growth. We’ll teach outlining techniques and help students prioritize which parts of their story to emphasize.

Group Session #4: Drafting the First Draft

With a solid outline in hand, students will dive into the drafting process. In this session, we’ll provide strategies to overcome writer’s block, write with authenticity, and bring their voice to life. Our tutors will support students in completing a full or partial first draft and set expectations for revising in future sessions.

Eight One-on-One Sessions: Personalized Essay Coaching

After completing the four foundational group sessions, each student transitions into eight personalized 30-minute one-on-one sessions with an expert college essay tutor. These individualized meetings are where students receive tailored guidance, in-depth feedback, and hands-on support to take their Common App essay from first draft to final submission.

Our tutors work closely with students to refine structure, elevate storytelling, and ensure the essay reflects the student’s authentic voice while meeting the expectations of selective college admissions committees.

What Students Can Expect:

In-depth review and feedback on each essay draft Sentence-level editing for clarity, tone, and flow Strategic advice to enhance storytelling, emotional depth, and narrative impact Help with polishing the essay for grammar, style, word choice, and meeting word count limits Support with finalizing and uploading the essay to the Common App

Group Session #5: Peer-Editing

In the fifth session, students interact with each other on how to improve their writing.

Group Session #6: Final Draft

The final session will see active in-depth final revisions on the final draft, to help the students understand if their draft is completed.

Final Outcome: A Polished, Confident Submission

By the end of the program, students will have a polished, submission-ready Common App personal statement—crafted with confidence and aligned with the expectations of selective college admissions committees. With the right structure, story, and guidance, they’ll be equipped to stand out from the crowd.

A: PSAT 8/9 is offered for gr 6,7,8 and 9. PSAT 10 is offered to gr 10 students. (We suggest all gr.10 students to join our premium SAT program where we also combine PSAT 10 So that, by the end of the program you are good to take PSAT 10 and SAT)

A: We teach unique strategies and test taking skills and develop concepts.
By the end of the program students will get mastery on all concepts which are required for PSAT 8/9 and 10.

A: All our teachers are certified and very well experienced. We do hire college grads, but they should have top1% sat score and impressive teaching skills.

A: We conduct classes online through zoom sessions.

A: Classes are very interactive, and student centered. Often you can see raging debate among the students regarding concepts. We also integrate several online tech tools to actively engage students.

A: Weekly 3 hrs. (1hr Math,1 hr. reading and 1 hr. writing) The program lasts for 6 to 8 months.

A: Yes, students are assigned two to three hours of online homework every week. Parents are given consistent feedback on their progress.
